Cheaper than St. Moritz and closer than Switzerland, our slope is covered in a highly advanced material called Snowflex that provides an ‘as close to snow’ experience as you will get. This helps the skier to develop special techniques for styles such as bump skiing down the moguls and for the snowboarder, features such as Big Air Jumps, 1/4 Pipe and Fun Box create all the right challenges.

Our main slope is arguably the best artificial freestyle slope (and with the best ramps) in the UK and was voted as such in 2004 by readers of one of the UK snowboard magazines. Consequently, since the year 2000, Halifax has dominated the UK competition circuit with many ‘locals’ winning British Championship titles. A prime example is the young Jamie Nicholls – one of our brightest hopes for an Olympic Medal in 2010.

For those wanting to learn the sport from scratch, we also have beginners slopes which offer the perfect environment on which to learn the basics in the capable hands of one of our qualified ski instructors before progressing onto the main slope. Almost all our snowboard lessons take place on our new, more forgiving, Snowflex beginner slopes. For the less energetic, lessons can be viewed from the Conservatory Bar in Charlie Fastrax or from the upstairs viewing lounge.
Both slopes have ski tows, the main is serviced by Highline and Button-Tow lifts enabling you to maximise you time going downhill whilst the Beginners Slope has a Rope Tow Lift.
Snowsports are going through a revival at the moment with the freestyle side booming. Halifax is right at the front of that movement with several of our instructors currently being British Big Air Champions.
As one of the UK’s premiere snowboarding centres, we pride ourselves in helping you to learn to the highest possible standard. Which do you learn? The choice should always be yours and whatever that may be you are assured that you will be taught on the finest snowboard slope in the country.
Snowboarding can be a little daunting at first but once you’re up and running your learning curve increases very quickly. With only two edges to control, your coordination will be much quicker to master.
Skiing in comparison is a little more forgiving on those first few lessons with a good stable platform of two skis to get your balance however progression is not as fast as Snowboarding as you have four edges to coordinate.
